Aircraft Deicing Basic Operations Training Course

An introduction and insight into De/Anti-Icing Operations for non-spraying staff

Introduction

Aircraft ground de-icing is a safety critical process essential for safe aircraft operations in cold weather conditions. While personnel directly involved in de-icing and anti-icing require detailed technical knowledge, this course provides frontline operational staff, including Turnaround Coordinators and ramp personnel, with a clear understanding of de-icing processes, their importance and their role in maintaining safety during winter operations.

The course covers key areas such as aviation regulations, SAE International requirements, industry best practices and the clean aircraft concept. Participants will also gain awareness of de-icing fluids, equipment and facilities, as well as operational procedures, safety considerations and emergency response during aircraft de-icing operations.

Duration: 1 day, theory only.

Maximum participants: 10 per course.

Delivery method: Theory (Classroom) or online, instructor-led.

Continuing qualification: SAE International do not currently specify and recurrent requirements for this training.

We also offer a comprehensive range of aircraft de-icing and anti-icing training courses designed to support all roles involved in winter operations:

Training for Frontline Spraying Personnel

Designed for operational staff directly involved in aircraft de-icing and anti-icing procedures:

Training for Management, Supervision and Audit Roles

Specialist courses for those responsible for oversight, governance and compliance:

  • 1. Why is it important?

Aircraft ground de-icing and anti-icing are critical to flight safety, requiring the complete removal of contamination from aircraft surfaces during cold weather operations. The industry applies the clean aircraft concept to ensure that safety is never compromised and that aircraft performance is not adversely affected.

While this course is not designed for personnel carrying out de-icing operations, it is essential for frontline operational staff to understand the key processes, procedures and industry best practices. This awareness supports safe, compliant and efficient aircraft turnaround operations during winter conditions and helps reduce risk across ramp operations.

  • 2. Who should attend?

This course is designed for frontline non spraying operational personnel, including Turnaround Coordinators, Ramp Agents, Loading Supervisors and other ground handling staff working on the ramp, who require an understanding of aircraft de-icing and anti-icing operations and their importance to flight safety.

Please note: This training is delivered exclusively as an in-company course for organisations. It is not available to private individuals.

  • 3. Course objectives

To provide participants with a clear understanding of aircraft ground de-icing and anti-icing operations, including key processes, safety principles and industry best practices.

The course aims to develop awareness of why de-icing is critical to flight safety and the role frontline operational personnel play in maintaining safety standards during cold weather aircraft operations.

High Quality Training Materials

Transferring knowledge and skills through the training process can be a demanding activity. Regulation and industry best practice demands that the standard of training is always high.

We supply several organisations with training material for a range of ground operations and ground handling training. Whether it's off the shelf or bespoke, our material is designed to not only be compliant and up-to-date, but also relevant, easy to follow and engaging.

To that make sure that the course material is fully absorbed we have placed an intense focus on producing high quality training materials that can be referred back to by the student whenever they need.

The quality and variety of material, that is used within the training environment, is essential for maintaining engagement, and delivering your training objectives.

Writing training material can be a complex and time-consuming job for any organisation. Ensuring that content is aligned, compliant and appropriately approved can be an arduous task at the best of times, but ensuring that it's also interesting and effective makes it more of a challenge, but we are here to help you.

This is a highly cost effective method of outsourcing a critical but time-consuming task. Whether we design your sessions, train your instructors to deliver our material or whether we deliver it in its entirety, we are likely to have a solution that will meet your requirement.

Typically, material sets can include any or all of:

  • Participants Guide - provides supplementary, lower level detail to complement the instructors presentation

  • Instructors Guide - includes lesson plans and a step by step guide on each session

  • Slide Pack - includes comprehensive visual aids and high level information for participants

  • Hand-outs - exercises and relevant information for participants
