Aircraft Ground Deicing Training Courses
De/Anti-Icing training course covering all qualification levels from DI-L10 to DI-L70
Introduction
Aircraft and Ground De-icing and Anti-icing training courses are designed to cover all qualification levels, from operational staff to management. These programmes provide participants with the detailed knowledge and practical skills required to safely and effectively carry out aircraft de-icing and anti-icing operations.
The courses cover the core principles of aircraft de-icing, including fluid types and characteristics, de-icing equipment, weather conditions and the effects of contamination on aircraft aerodynamics.
All training is aligned with the latest requirements of SAE International AS6286 standards, ensuring compliance across all qualification levels and supporting safe, efficient and compliant winter operations.
Duration: 2 days for theory, practical is dependent on number of participants.
Maximum participants: 10 per course.
Delivery method: Theory (Classroom) & Practical (Live environment), both instructor-led.
Continuing qualification: All qualifications listed below require annual refresher training in line with SAE International requirements.
We offer training for the following SAE qualification levels:
DI-L10 - Deicing Vehicle Driver
DI-L20 - Deicing Operator
DI-L30 - Deicing Supervisor
DI-L40 - Deicing Instructor
DI-L50 - Deicing Coordinator
DI-L60 - Fluid Quality Inspector (Laboratory staff only)
DI-L70 - Head of Deicing Training
DI-L80 - Flight Crew (Winter Operations)
DI-L80B - Cabin Crew (Icing Awareness)
Awards, Memberships, & Accreditations
Our aircraft de-icing and anti-icing training courses are practical, engaging and aligned with the latest industry standards and best practices. Using real world examples and case studies, participants gain a clear understanding of de-icing processes, their importance and how to manage the risks and safety challenges associated with winter aircraft operations.
Note: Course content and duration are dependent on the applicable SAE International level of qualification.
We also offer a comprehensive range of aircraft de-icing and anti-icing training courses designed to support all roles involved in winter operations:
Training for Frontline Non-Spraying Personnel
Awareness training for ramp and operational staff supporting winter operations:
Training for Management, Supervision and Audit Roles
Specialist courses for those responsible for oversight, governance and compliance:

1. Why is it important?
The removal of contamination from aircraft surfaces in cold and freezing conditions is critical to flight safety. The industry applies the “clean aircraft” concept to ensure all contamination is removed prior to departure, maintaining aerodynamic performance and preventing safety risks during flight.
-
2. Who should attend?
De-Icing Operator, De-Icing vehicle driver, De-Icing Supervisor, Inspector, Instructor, Coordinator & Head of Training. We can also provide training for Flight & Cabin Crew. See SAE AS6286 section 3.2 "Levels of Qualification" for applicable levels.
Please note: we only provide this training course for our clients as an 'in company' training course. Unfortunately, we don't offer this course for private individuals.

3. Course objectives
To provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively carry out aircraft de-icing and anti-icing operations in accordance with industry standards.

WHO WE WORK WITH
Our clients are our biggest advocates
With over 40 years of aviation consultancy experience, we’ve partnered with leading airports, airlines, and ground handlers worldwide from major international hubs to specialist operators. But don’t just take our word for it — see what our clients have to say.
High Quality Training Materials
Transferring knowledge and skills through the training process can be a demanding activity. Regulation and industry best practice demands that the standard of training is always high.
We supply several organisations with training material for a range of ground operations and ground handling training. Whether it's off the shelf or bespoke, our material is designed to not only be compliant and up-to-date, but also relevant, easy to follow and engaging.
To that make sure that the course material is fully absorbed we have placed an intense focus on producing high quality training materials that can be referred back to by the student whenever they need.
The quality and variety of material, that is used within the training environment, is essential for maintaining engagement, and delivering your training objectives.
Writing training material can be a complex and time-consuming job for any organisation. Ensuring that content is aligned, compliant and appropriately approved can be an arduous task at the best of times, but ensuring that it's also interesting and effective makes it more of a challenge, but we are here to help you.
This is a highly cost effective method of outsourcing a critical but time-consuming task. Whether we design your sessions, train your instructors to deliver our material or whether we deliver it in its entirety, we are likely to have a solution that will meet your requirement.
Typically, material sets can include any or all of:
Participants Guide - provides supplementary, lower level detail to complement the instructors presentation
Instructors Guide - includes lesson plans and a step by step guide on each session
Slide Pack - includes comprehensive visual aids and high level information for participants
Hand-outs - exercises and relevant information for participants
