AS6286 Revision E Published: What Ground Handlers and Airlines Need to Know for Winter 2026/27
SAE International has published AS6286 Revision E, the latest version of the global standard for Aircraft Ground Deicing Training and Qualification Programmes. Effective from August 2026, the new revision introduces the most significant restructuring of de-icing qualification levels since the standard was first introduced.
The headline change is the complete restructuring and expansion of the DI-L qualification framework, increasing the number of recognised qualification levels from 9 to 14 and introducing several new operational and support roles. The new qualification levels range from DI-L10 to DI-L140 and include all levels of ground de-icing personnel, management, auditors, laboratory staff, flight crew and cabin crew.
Among the new qualification levels are:
DI-L30 – Engine Contamination Removal Personnel
DI-L70 – Communicator
DI-L90 – Fluid Quality Inspector (Non-Laboratory)
DI-L110 – Deicing Auditor (more information below)
DI-L140 – Cabin Crew (Icing Awareness)
Of particular interest to airlines and ground handling organisations is the introduction of DI-L110 – Deicing Auditor. For the first time, personnel responsible for auditing de-icing and anti-icing programmes are recognised as a formal qualification level within AS6286. The qualification also carries an annual recurrent training requirement, reflecting the increasing importance of oversight, compliance, and quality assurance within winter operations programmes.
You can view the full list of new and revised qualification levels introduced in AS6286 Revision E on our website by clicking here, or by referring directly to SAE International where Revision E is available for purchase on their website.
Our De-Icing Auditor Training
For organisations seeking to qualify internal auditors under the new DI-L110 Deicing Auditor requirement, we offer a dedicated Aircraft Deicing Auditing Training Course designed specifically for airline and ground handling internal company auditors. Learn more by clicking here.
Please note that this course is designed for internal de-icing and anti-icing auditors and does not qualify participants to conduct DAQCP audits.
With the August 2026 implementation date approaching, now is the ideal time to review training matrices, qualification records, and winter operations programmes to ensure full compliance with the new standard.
Our other De-Icing Training Courses
In addition to our De-Icing Auditor course, we offer a range of aircraft de-icing and anti-icing training programmes designed for different operational roles and qualification requirements:
Full Qualification De-Icing Training (DI-L10 to DI-L140) – Comprehensive theory and practical training for frontline de-icing personnel and supporting staff.
De-Icing Management– Designed for non-spraying managers and supervisors responsible for overseeing de-icing operations.
De-Icing Basics – An introductory course for non-spraying ramp personnel who require an understanding of de-icing and anti-icing operations.
All courses are aligned with the latest SAE International AS6286 requirements and can be tailored to your operational environment.
